1800 Numbers1800 Numbers Explained

1800 numbers are the Australian reversed charge network. This means that the business pays for the cost of the customer's call.

A customer can make a call to a 1800 number from any fixed landline within Australia for the price of a local call.

When your customer calls a 1800 number from their mobile phone, their mobile provider will charge your customer a fee for ringing your 1800 number.

This fee varies and will depend on which company they are with.

A 1800 number piggy-backs your already existing service.

This can be a mobile number or a fixed land line.

1800 numbers do not need a separate phone line.

A 1800 number does not affect your existing service.

Customers will still be able to dial your fixed land line or mobile phone number directly.

You may still dial out from your mobile phone or fixed land line, these calls will be billed to you by your existing provider.

Telcoworks will only bill you for any incoming calls on your 1800 number.

Customer's calls that you receive through your 1800 number will be treated exactly the same as if they had called you on your fixed land line number or mobile number. Eg: If you have messagebank attached to your mobile or fixed landline and you miss the call, the call will go through to your message bank.

Ever increasing popularity in 1800 numbers!

1800 numbers are becoming more popular across Australia.

It is now common knowledge that 1800 numbers massively increase the effectiveness of your advertising and dramatically increase business sales.

They are brilliant and very inexpensive with some telco's, just beware of the telcos that like to charge unnecassary set-up fees starting from $19 to a $100 as well other hidden fees and charges.

At Telcoworks we always pride ourselves on passing on low rates to our customers.

13, 1300 and 1800 telephone numbers?

  • A 1300 number has 10 digits e.g. 1300 83 52 69
  • A 1800 number has 10 digits e.g. 1800 835 269
  • A 13 number has 6 digits e.g. 13 XX XX

Calls made to a 13 number are charged at the same rate of a 1300 number. However, there is a substantial annual government charge of around $10,000 associated with 13 numbers.
